As a former practicum student through the Human Service Worker diploma program via the College of the Rockies, and now an employee, Cher brings with her to BBBSCVI a passion to help children and youth in her new community. Cher is enthusiastic about ensuring that every child has a person of support in their lives, providing them with encouragement, and empowerment in their early and formative years.
In Cher’s spare time, she enjoys exploring the many beaches Nanaimo and the surrounding area has to offer with her son and their dog. Cher also enjoys reading, going to concerts, yoga, volunteering, hiking, and gardening.

Valerie is the Finance & Fund Development Director at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Vancouver Island, where she blends numbers, relationships, and a passion for community to help power life-changing mentoring programs. A bilingual social profit leader, she brings a thoughtful and strategic approach to building sustainable funding that ensures more young people have access to a caring, consistent mentor. Valerie is driven by the belief that strong connections can truly change the trajectory of a child’s life. She loves finding creative ways to grow support for the organization while staying grounded in its mission to ignite the potential of every young person. Outside of work, you’ll find her fishing with her spouse, exploring Vancouver Island, dancing, lifting weights, tending her garden, or taking her cat out for walks and sniffs.
