Location: Nanaimo (hybrid meetings available)
Time Commitment: 4–6 hours per month
Term: Minimum one-year commitment

About Us
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Vancouver Island (BBBSCVI) is a community-based
charity helping children and youth reach their full potential. As one of over 100 BBBS
agencies serving more than 1,100 communities across Canada, we offer proven
mentorship programs that help young people build confidence, resilience, and strong,
positive relationships. Our work is local – our impact is personal. The connections we
foster create a stronger sense of belonging and make a lasting difference in the lives of
both mentees and mentors.

Your Role and Responsibilities
Board Members are responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the
organization, working closely with the Executive Director and fellow Board members to
achieve BBBSCVI’s mission.
Key Responsibilities:
 Attend monthly Board meetings (3 rd Thursday of the month at 5:30PM via Zoom
or in-person)
 Actively participate in strategic planning and organizational development
 Help guide the development and implementation of policies and procedures
 Oversee financial performance and ensure fiscal responsibility
 Participate in one or more committees and assist with key tasks between
meetings
 Support and participate in the evaluation of the Executive Director
 Assist with Board recruitment and mentorship of new members
 Advocate for BBBSCVI in the community and build relationships with
stakeholders, funders, and partners
 Support fundraising initiatives and donor engagement
 Stay informed about agency programs, performance, and sector trends

We’re Looking for People Who:
 Have a passion for youth empowerment and mentorship
 Are collaborative, curious, and ready to engage
 Bring skills in one or more of the following areas (not required but helpful):
o Education, teaching, or childcare (especially current or former school staff)
o Social services or psychology

o Nonprofit or charity work (staff or volunteer)
o Board or committee experience in any sector
o Fundraising, donor relations, or event planning
o Strategic planning and governance
o Finance, law, or human resources
o Marketing, communications, or public relations
o Equity, diversity, and inclusion

Time Commitment
 Approximately 4–6 hours per month
 Includes monthly board meetings, committee participation, event attendance, and
prep time
